How We Evaluate Hospital Beds

Last updated

This page explains how we compare beds, so you can judge our recommendations for yourself. The same method applies to every brand, including any that advertise with us or that a company connected to us sells.

Two kinds of evaluation, clearly labeled

What we look at

  1. Category. Is it sold as a hospital bed or as an adjustable bed with hospital-style features? This matters for care plans and safety.
  2. Height range. The lowest and highest positions, and how they’re measured (to the deck, or to the top of the mattress, with or without casters or legs).
  3. Positions. Head and knee or foot adjustment, chair position, Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg, and rotation.
  4. Sizes. Widths and lengths, and options for couples.
  5. Weight capacity. The stated figure and what it includes.
  6. Safety features. Rail options, compatible mattresses, brakes, battery backup, and emergency lowering.
  7. Look and fit in the home. Finishes, hidden components, headboard options, and how close it sits to the wall.
  8. Ownership costs. Published price, what’s included, delivery options, warranty, and return terms.
