Editorial Policy
Last updated
Readers are often making a health and money decision under stress. This policy explains how we research and update guides, and what we do when we get something wrong.
Who we write for
Family caregivers, spouses, older adults planning ahead, and the professionals who help them. We write in plain language, put the direct answer first, and define medical or insurance terms when we use them.
How we research
- Primary sources first. For specifications and prices we use the manufacturer’s own pages and documents. For coverage rules we use Medicare.gov, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and Medicare’s equipment contractors. For safety we use the FDA and peer-reviewed research.
- Every figure gets a source. If we can’t verify a number, such as a weight capacity or a price, we leave it out or say it wasn’t published. We don’t estimate.
- We note when sources disagree. If a manufacturer’s pages contradict each other, we say so and tell you what to confirm with the seller.
- Dated checks. Each source shows the date we accessed it. Prices and specs change often, so we encourage readers to confirm details before buying.
Hands-on experience
When a page is based on published specifications rather than hands-on evaluation, we say so on the page. We never describe testing, measurements, or photos we didn’t take. Our evaluation method explains how we compare beds.
Independence
- Rankings and verdicts follow our published method. Payment does not change editorial order.
- Advertisers and manufacturers cannot review or approve content before it’s published. They may point out factual errors in specifications, and we log any correction we make.
- Paid placements, if we ever run them, are labeled and kept separate from editorial content. See our advertising policy and disclosure.
Health and safety information
Content that touches health or safety is educational only. It is not a substitute for advice from a licensed clinician. See our medical review policy and medical disclaimer.
Use of AI tools
We may use AI tools to help with research, organizing notes, and first drafts. Every fact on a published page is checked against its cited source before publication. AI tools are never used to invent experiences, reviews, quotes, or test results.
Updates
- Every page shows its “Published” and “Updated” dates. A page is marked updated only when its content changes in a meaningful way.
- We re-check cost, “best of,” and Medicare pages at least once a year, and sooner when CMS updates its coverage documents.
- We re-check product comparisons when manufacturers change models or prices.
Corrections
If you find an error, please contact us. We review every report. When we fix a factual error, we update the page and, for significant corrections, add a short note at the bottom of the page explaining what changed and when.
